Dark Horse would be nothing without the passion and hard work that our staff puts into each and every project, so to help celebrate our 40th Anniversary, we wanted to give fans the chance to learn more about the people behind the scenes!
Tara McCarron, Assistant Editor
What is your job title?
I work in editorial! I review and give feedback on scripts, layouts, pencils, inks, colors, and letters. I send a lot of emails and route a lot of files. I assist with organizing and collecting information for contracts and invoicing for payments. I create documents and spreadsheets for our production team that let them know the themes/directions/requests for designs and where art and text should be placed in the pages of our comics and books. I write descriptions of our comics and books and create information sheets for our marketing and sales team. And many other various things!
What is the first Dark Horse title that you read?
When I was in high school I read Hellboy: Seed of Destruction, Sin City: The Hard Goodbye, and Lone Wolf and Cub: The Assassin’s Road all around the same time, so I can't say which one was first but it would have been one of those three.
What's the first Dark Horse title that you worked on?
When I first started working here I jumped right into the middle of a number of titles, so just to mention a few: Summer Shadows, Quick Stops, Count Crowley, Barstow, and Stephen McCranie's Space Boy.
Do you have a favorite memory from working at Dark Horse?
I can't think of a specific memory, but I just appreciate the awesome, funny, kind, talented, and creative folks I get to work with here.
What are you most proud of working on at Dark Horse?
I have both enjoyed and been proud of every project I've worked on, but I'll give an extra shout out to Tramps of the Apocalypse, Living Hell, Summer Shadows, Barstow, and Tomb Raider: Sacred Artifacts.
What are you looking forward to most this year at Dark Horse?
One series I really enjoyed working on this year was Kingdom of Earth, and I'm so excited for that one to be out in the world. David, Leah, Soo, and Frank are a fantastic team and have created something really special. I also really enjoyed working on He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: The Wings of Fate—it was such a fun series with something for fans both new and old. There're also some other exciting projects in the works, but I can't talk about them, so you'll just have to stay tuned!
