Jim Flora created dozens of diabolic and hallucinatory album cover illustrations in the 1940s and ‘50s. Featuring angular, beaked-nosed beatnik musicians playing cockeyed, levitating instruments, his work has influenced many of today's popular artists. He used colors and subject matter that now evoke another time in history: ‘40s and ‘50s back alley clubs, beat poetry, and jazz musicians playing their hearts out: back when cool was really cool.
