October is always a good month to highlight stories of the creepy kind, and this October is no exception to that rule, as Dark Horse premiers an all new action/horror series detailing the insane afterlife of a good cop gone dead in R.I.P.D.

Nick Cruz was one of the best cops in the 92nd precinct until a barrage of bullets cut him down in the prime of his life. But instead of floating blissfully up to the pearly gates as most men of his moral standing would, Nick's been given a second chance--not at life, exactly, but at avenging his own death and lending a hand the supreme good guy. As a murdered cop, Nick has been invited to join the ranks of the best dead cops in the afterworld, and his mission, like the other officers of the Rest In Peace Department, is to serve The Big Guy for 100 years. And, in exchange for his dead-icated service, he'll get the chance to bring his own murderer to justice--if he ever figures out who killed him.

"Basically--I don't want to be too specific--it's about God's police force," explained the series' creator, Peter Lenkov, "and the officers who patrol the dead beat. Any crime having to do with Hell--escapes, Faustian deals, stuff like that--is their turf. But getting onto the R.I.P.D. is tough--you have to be dead. And, R.I.P.D. has fulfilled a lifelong goal. I get to have Satan say: `Let's get it on.' "

RIPD is the all-new action-horror series created by Peter Lenkov, and featuring the art of comics newcomer Lucas Maragnon. It's part hard-boiled crime tale, and part John Woo epic, with a twist of Evil Dead. Look for the first issue of this fantastic four-part series October 6, when the first issue of this full-color romp through the afterlife hits comics shops shelves. Each 32-page issue of R.I.P.D. is priced at $2.95.
