This October, Dark Horse Entertainment, Pacific Western Productions, and Universal Pictures will begin production on the motion-picture adaptation of Chuck Pfarrer's 1993 sci-fi-adventure comic, Virus. The film is projected to open in theaters in August 1997.

Gale Ann Hurd (Pacific Western Productions), known for producing such blockbuster hits as Terminator 2 and Aliens, will act as producer for Virus. Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor John Bruno, who has worked on such films as True Lies, Batman Returns, Terminator 2, and The Abyss, has been signed as the director for Virus. Bruno recently co-directed T2-3D with James Cameron. The action adventure 3-D film opened this past April at Universal Studios, Florida. Dark Horse President Mike Richardson will act as executive producer.

Pfarrer, a screenwriter by trade, brought the Virus concept to Dark Horse in 1992 as a film project. Said Richardson, "The comic series illustrated the story's potential, and certainly helped the Universal executives make their decision to go forward with this project. "
