"To begin with," said Cud creator Terry LaBan, "instead of the long Bob Cudd story, there'll be a series of self-contained stories featuring Eno and Plum and their pals. It'll be kind of like Archie meets the Freak Brothers. At least that's how I'm describing it -- really, it's this sort of classic cartoon world where there's a continuing cast of characters who always behave the same way. Outrageous things happen, but in the end, we're always back where we started."
Each issue of Cud will feature a broad selection of Terry LaBan's creations, including short pieces featuring Mickey Pimple, Teen Adventurer and Mucktuck Wolfsbreath, Hard-Boiled Shaman. "That's what makes it cud," said LaBan. "It's a mishmash of stuff."
Terry LaBan has maintained a busy schedule of non Cud-related projects as well. His writing skills will also be showcased in a six-issue Grendel Tales miniseries, subtitled "The Devil May Care," which is illustrated by English artist Peter Doherty. "The Devil May Care" also begins in November. In addition, LaBan has written the premiere story arc for The Dreaming, a series slated to replace Sandman as part of DC's Vertigo line. On top of that, he has just signed a contract to do a creator-owned series for Vertigo, which LaBan describes as "an action-adventure conspiracy opera." This series is called The Unseen Hand.
Cud Comics is an ongoing monthly color comic-book series from Dark Horse Comics.
