Legendary comics artist Bernie Wrightson is embarking on his long-awaited return to horror comics with City of Others, a creative collaboration with Steve Niles. City of Others is the story of one man--a barely human killer named Blud who finds purpose, love and passion after his death. Blud is a despicable man devoid of human emotion with a nightmarish past. He makes his living as a hit man, capitalizing on his utter lack of remorse or respect for humanity. His work is grisly and horrendous, but it brings him neither regret nor pleasure. Emotionally, he might as well be a dead man. But after a series of mysterious encounters, his world is turned upside down when he joins a population of monsters. And it's then, upon the loss of his human life, that Blud gains the the emotion to finally relate to it.

On the subject of his return to comics, Bernie Wrightson had this to say, "I haven't done much comic book work, horror comics in particular, for years. I wasn't too excited or satisfied with any of the projects being offered. It seemed like the bottom had fallen out of horror comics in general. I had a few ideas of my own, but never pitched them for fear of their being compromised and watered down and changed into something so far from my original inspiration that I'd just figure it wasn't worth doing." He continued, "When I met Steve I hadn't yet read any of his work, but he shared my interests in horror comics and movies, and the first time we sat down talking over a few beers we came up with a story. I immediately thought, "Here's someone I think I could work with." We started talking about BLUD in the fall of 2005 and soon realized that we were plotting a graphic novel, a novel in the truest sense of the word."

"One of the reasons Dark Horse ever developed a horror line is Bernie Wrightson" said Dark Horse editor Shawna Gore. "Senior editor Scott Allie and I both grew up reading horror comics, and as we've worked together developing the line, the one name that always crop up as inspiration for what we do is Bernie Wrightson. He's been on the top of our list of dream people to work with since the line took shape. Getting to work with Bernie on a scary comic book is a great honor ... the fact that his work looks better now than it ever did makes this a literal dream come true for this comics fan."

"I've been a rabid fan of horror comics since the 1950's, reading Haunt of Fear and Vault of Horror by flashlight under the covers, then hiding the comics under the mattress, so my mom wouldn't find them and throw them out" said Wrightson. "When I started drawing comics I had no real sense of emulating the ECs or carrying on the tradition. It was more out of love of horror stories in comic book form. I just wanted to do the kind of comic book that I wanted to read."

City of Others joins the Dark Horse Horror Line in Spring 2007.
