While Star Wars fans the world over are learning about the death of the great Wookiee Chewbacca, Dark Horse Comics is putting together a four-issue miniseries dedicated to retelling the greatest moments of the Rebel warrior's life.

In the days following Chewbacca's tragic death, his friends and loyal droids See-Threepio and Artoo-Detoo set out to chronicle the defining moments of the valiant Wookiee's life by interviewing everyone from his loving wife, Mallatobuck, to the Trandoshan slaver who suffered egregious wounds after trying to enslave Chewie, to his grieving best friend, Han Solo.

Fan-favorite writer Darko Macan is writing the ten short stories that comprise these four issues, and he says the decision to accept the job came naturally.

"My interest has never been with heroes as much as with `common' people, heavies, or comic reliefs. Since I dealt with the first two in X-Wing Rogue Squadron: Phantom Affair and Vader's Quest, the Chewbacca book seemed the perfect choice for my third involvement with the Star Wars universe. Of course, once I started writing I discovered that a `comic relief' can be quite a hero, too . . . Plus, I'm as huge and hairy as Chewie, which certainly helped with getting under his skin!"

Star Wars: Chewbacca features ten remarkable artists, each illustrating a different chapter of Chewbacca's life as chronicled by Macan. Issue one highlights Chewbacca's family life, with stories illustrated by Brent Anderson (Astro City), and Igor Kordey (Batman/Tarzan, Star Wars Tales); issue two explores former enemies' memories of the Wookiee, with art by Jan Duursema, Dave Gibbons (Watchmen, Vader's Quest), and Dusty Abell; Chewie's most heroic moments of battle are recalled in issue three with Martin Egeland, John Nadeau, and Kilian Plunkett, and Eddy Biukovic and Rafael Kayanan illustrate issue four, which includes Han Solo's emotional testimony to his love for his fallen comrade. Hellblazer's Sean Phillips provides painted covers for each issue of Star Wars: Chewbacca. Look for the premiere issue January 19.
