Hello, fellow Portlanders. This city has always been a haven for artists of all kinds and especially for those of the comic persuasion. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there are three events in the coming month where you can enjoy the art of some talented Dark Horse creators.
First up, Greg Preston’s photography from The Artist Within will be on loan from Las Vegas at the Portland Art Institute’s gallery at 1122 NW Davis St. until the end of the month.
Preston’s photography captures the greatest creators in the comic industry in their respective studios. The beautiful black-and-white photos show the personal qualities that are behind some of the most recognizable characters and images in modern time.
On August 30th, there will be a special closing event, so make plans to stop by and see some of your favorite creators like you’ve never seen them before.
Second, on August 22nd, as previously announced, Greg “Stainboy” Reinel, the rock and roll artist of Vicious Intent, will be making a special signing appearance at Diesel Fuel Prints as part of his national tour.
Diesel Fuel Prints has become one of the premier print shops for underground artists all over the nation and we’re excited to have Stainboy showcase his killer work in their space located at 726 SE 10th Ave. This event is one night only and starts at 6:00 p.m., but goes until there’s only one last man (or woman) standing.
Last, but not least, the Portland Creative Conference is back after a seven-year hiatus!
Writer Adam Gallardo of Gear School will be giving a presentation on September 6th at 3:45 p.m. about translating ideas to the comic medium. A short Q&A will follow the speech.
The Portland Creative Conference will be held at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts at 1111 SW Broadway. You can find out more about the conference at www.cre8con.com.
