Dark Horse Comics is proud to announce its association with the Police and Fire Departments of the City of Milwaukie in staging the First Annual City of Milwaukie Milkcap (POG) Tournament, to be held on June 15 and 16 at the City of Milwaukie Public Safety Building. Kids between the ages of 5 and 14 will compete for prizes, including T-shirts and comic books. A slammer, milkcaps, and a container will be given free to each contestant. The admission price is two cans of food for a food drive.

The Milkcap Tournament isn't the only attraction. The "Alien" and the "Predator" will be on display for photographs (free if you bring your own camera), courtesy of 20th Century-Fox and Dark Horse. Dozens of co-sponsors will provide a range of entertaining as well as educational activities, such as music and face-painting. McGruff the Crime Dog will appear. The "Safety House" will offer kids a chance to learn how to handle various household emergencies, such as fire, 911 emergencies, and "stranger danger." D.A.R.E. cars will be on display. A hot dog concession will be set up to benefit "Cop Camp," a program which teaches outdoor skills and self-esteem to at-risk urban kids.

"We're really excited about this," said police officer Carl (Butch) Bondietti. "The kids and the whole community are going to benefit from this."

"Nobody is going to leave the event empty-handed," explained John Dennett of Dark Horse Comics. "Just for participating in the food drive, everyone will receive free POGs. Not only that, Dark Horse will be giving out heaps of free posters and Dark Horse comics."

The First Annual For the Kids Tournament is open to the whole family. In fact, parents and other relatives are encouraged to attend as volunteers. Registration starts at 9:30 am on June 15 at the southside fire bay door facing Railroad Avenue at the Public Safety Building, 3200 SE Harrison Street in Milwaukie. Parking will be available in the Southern Pacific lot near the fire station and Railroad from 32nd to Harrison will be closed to vehicular traffic on Thursday and Friday during the event.
