Dark Horse Comics has just released the definitive illustrated history of the artistic influence of the twentieth century's pre-eminent pin-up girl, Bettie Page. Jim Silke's
Bettie Page: Queen of Hearts chronicles in words and pictures the world of fifties glamour art and its influences on Bettie Page. Jim Silke, the artist best known as the writer and illustrator of the sexy high adventure series
Rascals in Paradise, has contributed the meticulously researched historical text, rare images from his collection of pin-up art, and some of the illustrations. Silke has also gathered a stellar cast of artistic contributors, including Dave Stevens, William George, Mitchell Hooks, Robert Maguire, Marc Westermoe, Robert McGinnis, Mark Schultz, Frank Frazetta, and Al Williamson.
"Every picture of Bettie is a knockout," Silke said. "Whether she posed with a ball and chain or a teddy-bear, whether she wore polka dots or a splash of suntan oil, there is always something being said, some kind of hocus-pocus at work."
Bettie Page: Queen of Hearts features fifty never-before-published color and black-and-white images of Bettie Page, including photos by Bunny Yeager and rare material from the collections of Bettie Page authorities Paula Klaw and Dave Stevens. This 96-page, coffee-table trade paperback is available in comics shops and bookstores as of November 17, 1995, the same day Jim Silke's Rascals in Paradise collection arrives in shops.
