Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez will end Love and Rockets this year after more than 15 years of publication. But Gilbert's fans won't have to stray far from Palomar to find the writer/artist's latest offering -- a three-issue series titled Girl Crazy coming from Dark Horse this summer.

"It's the story of three girls -- Kitten, Maribel, and Gaby -- and the celebration of their mutual sixteenth birthday," said Hernandez. "They want to spend it with their other friend -- Una -- who is also celebrating her sixteenth birthday. But to do that, they've got to break her out of a Tiajuana prison."

Girl Crazy is the same blend of realism and absurdity that brought Love and Rockets such terrific critical acclaim, and which set the standard for comics in the early 1980s. To help launch the series, Dave Stevens has inked Hernandez's pencils for the cover to the first issue.

"Love and Rockets was one of the inspirations for me when I started Dark Horse," said publisher Mike Richardson. "It's an honor to now have Gilbert here with us, as we enter our tenth year of publishing."
