Dark Horse Comics will showcase the first look at the highly anticipated The Clone Wars comics and digest series at Comic-Con 2008! Each will be the perfect complement to Lucasfilm's highly anticipated CGI-animated The Clone Wars movie and television programs!

In The Shipyards of Doom, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker lead an elite clone trooper strike force with the task of destroying shipyards vital to the Separatists. However, their plan goes awry when the enemy is tipped off. The two Jedi heroes are forced to rely on help from Anakin’s new Padawan, Ahsoka Tano -- who has joined the mission against orders. Shipyards of Doom is a digest-sized graphic novella written by Henry Gilroy, the cowriter of the film and the head writer for the TV show, and illustrated by the prolific Fillbach Brothers. Each digest will feature a complete 88-page story, and the volumes can be read in any order.

In addition to the digests, Dark Horse is opening a second front in The Clone Wars in the form of a standard comic-book series. Also scripted by Gilroy, the comics tell the story of “Slaves of the Republic,” in which Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka are tasked with discovering what happened to the entire population of the planet Kiros, who have mysteriously disappeared after an invasion by the Separatist droid armies. Art for the series is by Scott Hepburn, Ramón Pérez, and Lucas Marangon. The cover for the first issue is by Dave Filoni -- the director of The Clone Wars.

“The cover for The Clone Wars #1 was actually one of the very first images that came to my mind in the development of the animated show,” said Filoni. “I was never able to get this image into the animated series, so when Randy Stradley asked me to do a cover, I was glad I finally found a home for one of the pieces of art that started it all.”

All of the Clone Wars comics are, like the upcoming film and TV series, written to be enjoyed by fans of all ages -- even adults.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars #1 goes on sale September 10, 2008, carrying a $2.99 price tag.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- Shipyards of Doom arrives just two weeks later on September 24, 2008, for $7.95.
