The regular monthly Dream Corridor series has created a tremendous ground swell of consumer interest. In fact, according to sales data from Diamond Comics Distribution, it now outsells every other comics anthology series. The ranks of Dream Corridor 's readership continue to increase. Often, these new readers complain that they can no longer find copies of the original Dream Corridor Special at their local comic-book retail outlets.
On August 29, Dark Horse Comics will re-issue the Dream Corridor Special. The entire contents of the original edition will be included, along with some additional material, making this book not so much a reprint but instead a legitimate second edition and a truly special event in its own right. For instance, Harlan's prose story, "Midnight in the Sunken Cathedral," will now appear in its entirety, between one set of covers for the first time. This tale originally appeared in two parts, beginning in the Dream Corridor Special and concluding in the first issue of the regular series. This book will also feature a brand-new interview with Harlan Ellison.
The original Stephen Hickman cover will appear on the front of the book, with the Michael Whelan cover from the first regular monthly issue of Dream Corridor on the back cover. "When it first appeared, 'Midnight in the Sunken Cathedral' was the 'story behind the cover,'" said author Harlan Ellison, the principal architect behind Harlan Ellison's Dream Corridor. "Now it's the 'story behind the covers.'" The original back cover illustration by Overton Loyd will appear in black and white as the inside front cover of this second coming.
The new edition of Harlan Ellison's Dream Corridor Special will also feature a redesigned cover logo as well as new dialogue from the pouting rosebud lips of Harlan himself, in the interstitial sequences, with illustrations by Eric Shanower.
