Master horror artist Guy Davis (B.P.R.D., Sandman Mystery Theater) brings his creator-owned title to Dark Horse with a new deluxe collection and a series of original graphic novels!
The upcoming collection, entitled The Marquis: Inferno, collects the contents of both the previously released graphic novels, Danse Macabre and Intermezzo, as well as never-before-seen sketches and a new introduction by Mike Mignola -- to be followed by a series of new Marquis graphic novels!
Featuring new cover design, revised and recolored story pages, and an expanded sketchbook, Inferno will also include a full-color cover gallery featuring work by Matt Wagner, Mike Mignola, Charles Vess, Teddy Kristiansen, Kelley Jones, and Michael Gaydos.
In eighteenth-century Venisalle, faith governs life and death, and the guilty hide their shame behind masks, showing their faces only in the secret rites of the confessional. It is to this stronghold of the Inquisition that the souls of hell have escaped to possess the living, spreading sin, murder, and chaos. Amid the carnage, one man is blessed with the clarity to recognize the demons that prey on his countrymen -- and the means to return them to the fires of Hell. But as the stakes rise, the lines separating good and evil begin to blur, and the Marquis -- the dark avenger whom even demons fear to cross -- finds himself torn between the blind faith that has defined his life and the bitter truths exposed under his new sight.
“Beautiful, smart, and very disturbing -- Guy Davis has created his own unique world, a personal vision of good and evil, and his finest work.” -- Mike Mignola
“The Marquis, by that ridiculously talented Davis person, quite frankly hit me right between the eyes like a killing hammer. Concept, character, and art, in one elegantly brutal package. The Marquis. It’s one of those remarkable anomalies this medium seems to spawn from nowhere every now and then. It’s quite unlike anything I’ve ever seen in comic . . . Ideas fly off the wall of Davis’s mind like flies on a corpse. Do yourself a favor and get your hands on anything by the title The Marquis. So good it hurts.” -- Michael Zulli
The Marquis Vol. 1: Inferno arrives on sale in September 2009. All-new Marquis graphic novels will follow beginning in March 2010.
