Dark Horse Comics has announced that Felix the Cat, the latest offering in their line of statuettes of vintage comic strip characters known collectively as "Classic Comic Characters," has sold out its run of 600 numbered copies upon solicitation.

"We are doubly pleased by this (sell out)", Dark Horse product development head David Scroggy noted, "because we not only sold out, but are able to honor all of the initial orders from comics retailers without allocation being necessary. So, while there will be no reorders honored, everyone who ordered should receive that order."

Felix will be the eighteenth release in the series. The statues depict famous characters from newspaper comics, and are numbered editions packaged in a custom litho-printed tin box that also includes a booklet and retro-style pin-back button.

Sculpted by Yoe Studios, one of the country's leading creative shops, the look of the figures is intended to evoke what has become known as the "Syroco" statues of the 1930's and 1940's. They are described by principal designer Craig Yoe as "primitive but charming".

Dark Horse initially offered the statuettes in editions of 550. All of the releases sold out, and many retailers and collectors were unable to receive copies they ordered. The edition size was increased to 750, with most titles selling out within months of their release. The edition size was further increased to 950, and these editions have inventory available for reorder. The edition size was then reduced to 600 copies, beginning with Felix the Cat.

"We view this as a ten year program", Scroggy continued, "so having a few extra on hand is not necessarily a bad thing. At the same time we wish to emphasize the collectability of each title, so it seemed best to try to identify a number that satisfied initial demand but still would increase in value in the secondary market. It seems like 600 worked pretty well, so we will maintain that edition size for the next several titles."
