Francisco Chavez is an interplanetary explorer, and he's just landed on a planet he knows almost nothing about. But it doesn't take him long to figure out at least one thing--he's definitely not alone. Chavez has, in fact, landed on a planet that is literally teeming with life wherever he goes. And despite the technological advances that made it possible for him to get there in the first place, he doesn't have the first clue about how to go about communicating with any of the hundreds of beings he soon begins encountering after spending only one night on the alien planet.

For the most part, the creatures Chavez runs into seem either benign or completely disinterested in his presence. But he has noticed other beings--murdering creatures he wouldn't turn his back on for a second--and some of those have noticed him, too. And once he begins to witness the political machinations of this complex alien society at work, it doesn't take Francisco Chavez long to become both a man in search of a greater destiny than any he'd ever imagined for himself, and the subject of an intense, relentless manhunt.

"The inspiration for Hieroglyph comes from my lifelong love of monsters, archeology, world cultures, and science fiction," said Delgado, whose creator-owned epic Age of Reptiles won him legions of fans and numerous industry awards. "Throw in a bit of Lawrence of Arabia, and you have Hieroglyph. I also love baseball, but I couldn't find a way to fit that in."

Ricardo Delgado's Hieroglyph is an action-packed four-issue series, debuting November 10 from Dark Horse Maverick. Each monthly full-color issue retails for $2.95.
