Scholastic’s Instructor Magazine has selected The Comic Book Project, a curriculum that leads students through the process of writing and designing their own original comic books, as one of the year’s top educational resources in Instructor’s Best of 2004 product review program. Scholastic bases their evaluation on the recommendations of a team of teacher/reviewers who carefully test and evaluate hundreds of new, classroom-ready materials and teaching tools.

Founder of The Comic Book Project, Dr.Michael Bitz created the product to “[bring] creativity back into children’s lives and into the learning process.” Bitz helps kids create their own comic books, based on educational themes such as conflict resolution and the environment. Children make their own comic books with a template to help them draw and write, create a title and produce a cover. The Comic Book Project ‘s four components sell for $6.00 per student. One student reports, “This was my favorite project ever! I developed my artistic skill and learned how to write stories, too!”

More information can be found on the website www.ComicBookProject.org and on Dark Horse Comics’ website. The Comic Book Project will also be featured on the Instructor website where you can access the complete 2004 product guide directly.
