Buffy the Vampire Slayer didn't start off as the world's hippest television show -- everyone's favorite slayer got her start in the sleeper hit film of the same title a few years ago. Now, as part of the incredibly popular Buffy comics series, Dark Horse is revisiting the early days of the famous slayer with a new look at the original film, adapted to comics by Dan Brereton, Chris Golden, and Joe Bennett.

Buffy Summers was once a normal high school girl -- cuter and sassier than average, but normal nonetheless. That was before she got the news that she was the new Chosen One -- the one human destined to fight for humanity against the evils of the undead. Now instead of dances and cheerleading, it's demons and chupacabra for this popular girl, and she'd better get a grip on her new status (and a big, fat stake!) if she doesn't want to wind up as a vamp snack before graduation.

"Chris and I have been lucky enough to be appointed your guides to a different, yet familiar version of the origins of Buffy's rise to Slayerdom," said Brereton. "We started with the original screenplay by Joss Whedon and ended up somewhere that's halfway between that first script, which is wonderful, and halfway to Sunnydale and the Buffy we've now come to know and love and pine for Tuesday night. Once again, Buffy proves to be excellent subject matter for comics."

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Origin, is a new three-issue miniseries from Dark Horse Comics, featuring the writing talents of Dan Brereton (Nocturnals) and Chris Golden (Hellboy: The Lost Army), and the Sarah-Michelle-approved art of Joe Bennett. The full-color, 32-page first issue of The Origin hits comics shops and newsstands everywhere January 13, and can be yours for $2.95.
