Dark Horse took the Eisner Awards by storm this year, garnering 26 nominations, more than any other company! The nominations run the gamut of Dark Horse's diverse publication schedule, as one will note from the attached list of nominations. From Nina Paley's Best Writer/Artist, Humor nomination to Jim Silke's Best Painter nomination, Dark Horse's diversity has put it at the front of the race.
Frank Miller was nominated for a Reuben Award, an honor which is bestowed by the members of the National Cartoonists' Society. Miller won the award in 1993.
Bryan Talbot's The Tale of One Bad Rat and Frank Miller's Sin City swept the two British awards ceremonies, The UK Comic Art Awards (sponsored by Rusty Staples, organizers of UKCAC and the Glasgow Comic Art Convention) and the Comic World Awards (sponsored by the British fan magazine, Comic World).
Frank Miller received the award for Best Writer/Artist in both the UKCAA and CWA awards, as well as receiving UKCAA's Special Career Achievement Award. Miller was also a contender in CWA's Best Writer category.
Talbot received three awards (Best New Publication, UKCAA; Best Limited Series, CWA; and Best Limited Series/Story Arc by the prestigious Comic Creators Guild) and placed in three other categories (1st runner-up Best Writer/Artist, UKCAA; 1st runner-up Best Story, CWA; and 3rd runner-up Best Writer/Artist, CWA).
Other Dark Horse-related placings in these two awards ceremonies include: John Byrne - 1st runner-up in CWA's Best Writer/Artist category; Lynn Varley - 2nd runner-up in UKCAA's Best Auxiliary Contributor category; and Mike Mignola - 1st runner-up in the category of Best Artist and 2nd runner-up in the categories of Best Book Collection and Best New Publication from UKCAA.
