Beginning November 8, customers who bring in two items of non-perishable food to any TFAW location will receive an additional 10% off their purchase, plus a free gift from Dark Horse Comics. In addition, every customer who donates food will be eligible to win a Dark Horse Comics Holiday Gift Pack, filled with various Dark Horse trade paperbacks, comics, and merchandise. Drawings will be held at each TFAW location on December 22, 1999, and winners of the Dark Horse Comics Holiday Gift Packs need not be present to win. Dark Horse Comics will also be sponsoring a food drive internally for employees to participate in.
"We'd like to give something back to the communities that have supported us so loyally over the past twenty years," commented Mike Davis, Things From Another World vice president and general manager. "With recent studies identifying Oregon as having the highest hunger rates in the country, our goal is to help those in need and make our communities a better and stronger place."
The Oregon Food Bank provides food to a network of social-service agencies across Oregon and Clark County, Washington. One in eight people living in these areas (and one in five children) receive food from the Oregon Food Bank. 96 percent of the food distributed comes from donations; around two-thirds comes from the food industry, with the remainder donated by the USDA and community drives.
Donations can include items such as canned soups, boxed meals, pasta, cereal, powdered milk and peanut butter. Customers should not bring any perishable items. Donations should be placed in the Oregon Food Bank barrels at each location. The Oregon Food Bank donation discount is not valid with any other discounts, and customers can receive one donation discount per day.
