The Horses took a 7-0 lead early in the first half, with overwhelming power offense provided by their center, Jon Richardson. Shooting Guard Dirk Wood canned a couple from 12 feet, and Michael Denning provided his usual all-around strong performance, including a 3-pointer in the first half. Denning continued his great plays, which included several steals and monster rebounds, and cashed-in on another 3-pointer in the second half, bringing his 3-point percentage to 75% for the season. Tom Weddle, the team's point guard, had some fantastic feeds to Wood and Richardson, as did the Horses' power forward, Jeff Macey. The bench support was impressive with Michael Ring, Michael Gombos and new teammate Joseph Kim providing some key assists, rebounds and several steals. Ben Jelline, having broken his toe, has been placed on the IR list, with Joseph Kim in to cover his spot until he recovers.
Strong defense, high shooting percentage, no-look feeds - the type of play you'd expect from the Horses - abounded all night. The one possible drawback to the team could be their abysmal free throw percentage: the team made only 2 of 14 attempted in their win last night.
When asked about how he felt about their performance Wednesday, shooting guard Wood proclaimed, while smoking an American Spirit in a post-game relaxation effort, "We played tight. I just wanted to take the ball coast-to-coast at least once, though."
The Horses play again next Wednesday at Clacakmas Community College at 8:30. Their opponent is undecided as of yet.
