Dan Brereton's pulp-inspired horror clan the Nocturnals first came to Dark Horse as a serial in Dark Horse Presents, after a successful run on Malibu's creator-owned Bravura label. Now the fun and frightful trick or treat adventures of Halloween Girl, the Gunwitch, and the rest of the Nocs is available as an extra-thick one-shot, coming in May from Dark Horse.

The Nocturnals are strangers to this world, borne of a planet they had to flee in order to escape . . . well, it's a long story, but now they're living among the rest of the freaks on planet earth, and Halloween is the only time of year these guys can be seen in public and not send the rest of the world into a panic. Halloween Girl, precocious little monster that she is, can't wait to do some serious trick or treating, and with the Gunwitch by her side and her bag of magic toys, nothing's going to stop her from getting candy from every single house she can find -- even if it means facing a mean old witch and her spooky punkinheaded minions!

"Ever since I created the Nocturnals, I've wanted to tell a story about Halloween Girl's take on Halloween, trick or treating, and the magic that takes place on All Hallow's Eve," said Brereton. "This story represents just one such night. It's the closest thing to a children's story that I've ever done, and truly done with my own children in mind. I tried to create the sort of feeling in this book that my kids and I have ourselves on Halloween; that it's a magical night, that anything can happen, and will."

Nocturnals: Witching Hour is a hauntingly fun one-shot, written and painted by dastardly Dan Brereton (Thrillkiller `62). This 48-page adventure collects the popular serial from DHP, and features eight additional pages of story. It also features a gallery with all-new pin-ups by Mike Mignola, Arthur Adams, Jay Stephens, Andi Watson, Paul Smith, and Rob Zombie (of the band White Zombie). Zombie also provides the book's introduction. Nocturnals: Witching Hour casts its spooky spell on comic shops everywhere starting May 20, and retails for $4.95.
