For millennia, mankind has wondered about our relationship to the cosmos, the meaning of life, and whether there is a grand design to the universe. Only God knows. So why not ask Him?

This is the assignment Nexus sets himself in God Con One and Two, shipping from Dark Horse in April of 1997. The problem is, in a pluralistic society representing dozens of alien cultures, there are bound to be several contrasting definitions of God, and some of these gods may may not like each other.

Mike Baron and Steve "the Dude" Rude first conceived the idea of the ultimate team-up, the supreme deities of the great religions on earth, plus several arising from alien cultures, two years ago at WonderCon following an intense discussion about religion at the then Parc Oakland bar. Dude wanted to know if there was a God, and if so, how he would draw Him in a comic book. This led to the inevitable riposte, "What if it's not a Him?"

God Con One has turned into a spiritual journey for both Baron and the Dude, as each sought to come to grips with his personal relationship with God during the writing. Baron, who comes from a Jewish background, and Rude, whose parents are Methodists, tried not to let their religious education influence them. Those elements that are certain to cause controversy, such

as the presentation of both Allah and Jesus being of equal importance, have been incorporated into the story.

"Looking for God has always been a subtext of superhero comics," says Baron. "From Thor to Stray Bullets #9, the search has become more specific. A comic book is as good a place as any to pose our questions, of which we have many."

God Con One will attempt to portray the Deity, with humility and respect, both as a man among men, and as the Unknowable. Coming April 18 at a price of $2.95.
