Rick Geary’s The Adventures of Blanche chronicles the extraordinary adventures of an equally extraordinary woman in the early twentieth century -- collecting long out-of-print material from the iconoclastic cartoonist for the very first time.

Blanche begins her journey with a refined piano professor in New York, but soon finds herself entangled with a brazen portrait painter, subterranean societies, and the shocking secrets behind the New York subway system. From there, she’s off to Hollywood, where her stirring talents bring to light the labor movement’s struggles with the motion picture studios. Then, in Paris, after a pleasant ocean voyage, Blanche arrives to find a canceled concert tour, a murder, and mysterious old memories.

These quirky, nostalgic tales receive modern treatment in a deluxe hardcover featuring an all-new introductory story by the creator. “Rick Geary’s charming portraits of the past are delivered from a contemporary perspective,” says editor Diana Schutz, “and he’s equally at home with the grisly details of his Victorian Murder series as he is with the ironies of a free-spirited woman addressing a more repressive era. Rick’s Blanche comics were one of my favorites from the early days of Dark Horse, and his new introduction brings them all together in a very personal and meaningful way.”

The Adventures of Blanche is guaranteed to appeal to fans of Geary’s unique, iconic style, or to anyone interested in exploring the surreal corridors of the not-too-distant past.

The Adventures of Blanche is expected to release in early 2009.
