In January, Dark Horse Comics will release the first issue of The Foot Soldiers, a comic-book series inaugurating a new era in superhero storytelling. Jim Krueger's The Foot Soldiers takes place in a near-future time when there are no more heroes left, and humanity has become subservient to a tyrannical robot regime known as the Bio-Technic Law.

This new, science-fictional take on the time-honored superhero genre will also showcase the artistic talents of Alex Ross, acclaimed for his startlingly realistic portrayals of Marvel Comics' heroes in 1993's Marvels series. Alex Ross will apply his astonishing realism to the world of The Foot Soldiers by providing the cover for the debut issue, which will also be printed as a poster insert to the first issue.

The art of Marvel Comics veteran John Romita, Sr. will also be featured in the first issue, in a special pinup gallery section featuring such artists as Mike Mignola, Paul Chadwick, and Mike Allred. John Romita, Sr. is best known for his long stint as penciller on The Amazing Spider-Man during the 1960s. Romita's version of the character is still regarded by many as definitive.

The Foot Soldiers is pencilled by Michael Avon Oeming, best known for his work on Judge Dredd, with inks by Jason Martin, and colors by Madman Comics colorist Laura Allred. The first issue will reach the comic-book specialty stores by January 30, 1996.
