"Harlan Ellison's Dream Corridor is a consistently good seller that is actually adding readers to the fold. This is exactly the kind of title we're looking for. It seems to attract an older demographic and has a special appeal to the many Harlan Ellison fans and collectors out there. They're not just 'predisposed' to Dream Corridor. It's like the book is virtually pre-sold!"
Joe Field (Flying Colors Comics and Other Cool Stuff, Concord, CA):
"It's nice to have a book that works on a couple of different levels. Die-hard Ellison fans now have an opportunity to get his work in the comics medium on an ongoing basis. It's another Dark Horse book that brings new readers into the comics market. And it doesn't hurt to have such high-caliber talent working on the book, either."
Jim Hanley (Jim Hanley's Universe, Staten Island and New York City):
"The Dream Corridor Special was resolicited, and that was one of the bright spots on the order form. I was glad to see that, since it sold through so quickly the first time around. In thirteen years, I have never been stuck with a single product that has had Harlan Ellison's name associated with it."
Mimi Cruz (Night Flight Comics, Salt Lake City, UT):
"In Japan, masters of noh-drama, Bunraku and sword-making are recognized as national treasures. If America were to recognize a writer as a national treasure, that person would be Harlan Ellison.
"At Night Flight, we were excited at the prospect of the new comic series Harlan Ellison's Dream Corridor. We felt confident that readers would be coming back to buy more and we have not been wrong. We knew that the quality of Ellison's writing would win us repeat sales. When the Dream Corridor Special hit our store, it was the highest-selling book in both units and dollars. We've found that there's no cure for the industry blues like a quality book!"
Kelli Stanley (The Funny Papers, San Francisco, CA):
"Dream Corridor is part of that elite handful of comics that have legs as back issues, right alongside X-Men, The Maxx, and Spawn. Not many titles can claim that, these days. I can order Dream Corridor more aggressively than just about anything else because it just keeps right on selling week after week after week. It keeps bringing me the customers who aren't getting what they want at other shops. If you're a retailer and you're not taking this into account when you fill out that order form, you're really losing out. And I'm eating your lunch."
Harlan Ellison's Dream Corridor Special was a runaway success when it appeared in comic-book shops in February. In April, Dark Horse Comics followed up with the release of Harlan Ellison's Dream Corridor #1, the first of a continuing monthly series of graphic adaptations of Ellison's multifarious peregrinations into the fantastic. Dark Horse Comics will re-issue the Dream Corridor Special on August 29.
