Win a chance to get killed in the 2nd Story Arc of The Strain!

We're making preparations for the coming infestation, storing food, comics and weapons. The Strain #1 is on its way, infecting comic shops on Dec. 14th. And here's a little contest to get you excited for the comics from Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan, David Lapham and Mike Huddleston.

Last week we asked our visitors to share their survival plans with us for a chance to win an appearance in the next Strain story arc. Below is the fourth finalist for the Contest: Sally Nugent

Be sure to read each of the entries, voting will begin at the end of the week.

Somehow I survived the fatal epidemic. By hiding, naturally. Cowardice has always been a strong point of mine. Before leaving, I would grab a few essentials; packeted food, bottled water, a book to give me something to do whilst I cower. And the crow bar in the garage, just in case. I'd be heavily outmatched if it came down to it, but I wouldn't go down without a fight. I could use it for opening doors too. I wouldn't be able to move quickly enough with anything like a sledge hammer or axe – far too heavy for me. I know a place close by where I could swipe a chainsaw, but it would just run out of fuel and then what? It'd become a useless piece of junk. I also cut my hair short, I don't want to die because something grabbed it. That would be a simply humiliating way to die.

I think of a place to hunker down on the move, stay in one place to long and you'll get caught. I stay alone too, don't want to be slowed down by others, despite whatever their circumstances may be. From the strong and capable to the ill or with child, I don't care. Every one for themselves and a person who can't watch their own back deserves what they get. Resources will begin to dwindle soon too and I don't fancy sharing. Except with my family, of course. You shouldn't form emotional attachments with anyone in an apocalypse, but you should always look out for your family, right? I would still travel alone though, leave them some place safe and scout ahead, as it were.

I decide on my perfect location when I walk past it. The private school I have (or had) a part-time job at. It's perfect, fenced off and easy to lock down. The kitchen in particular would be a wonderful place to hide away, seeing as it was full of food and the office was a good place to sleep somewhat peacefully. Of course, there was always the problem...what if it was already occupied? Well, I would have to deal with that when I got there. Whether the occupants were alive or otherwise was irrelevant, I'd deal with it. And when I say deal with it, I say deal with it. Hey, the living may come in handy as bait or something. If it was the 'otherwise' category, well...I guess I'll just die horribly and in agony. Or run away, since it's my speciality.

Then I would wait it out. Honestly, only morons act like heroes in these situations. The food should last for several months at least and there's plenty to barricade the doors with. If we haven't been found and rescued in that time, you can assume that you're going to get nuked, if you haven't already been, or everyone else is dead. In which case, so are you.
