Even 75 years after his death, Robert E. Howard remains one of the most influential pulp writers of all time. The creator of such characters as Conan the Barbarian, Solomon Kane, and Kull, King of Valusia!, Howard's mark on pop culture is indisputable. With the release of our new 100% Man campaign, each month we'll be featuring a character profile and caption contest on one of Robert E. Howard's best known creations. To kick things off, we've got Kull, the King of Valusia!
Name: Kull, King Kull, The Exile of Atlantis, Kull-Nae, The Doom King
First Appearance in Comics: Creatures on the Loose #10
Weapon of Choice: Ax, Sword
Character Quote: “I will pass this fell horror through my entrails before I am finished tonight!”
Character Bio: Born on the barbaric isle of Atlantis, Kull’s tribe was swept away by a flood, leaving the only survivor, baby Kull, to be raised in the wilderness by tigers. Kull was found and adopted at a young age by members of the Sea Mountain tribe. Soon he became one of their best hunters and warriors, but things turned sour for Kull in Atlantis when he violated an ancient Atlantean tradition--humanely killing a woman accused of being a witch instead of burning her at the stake. Kull was forced out of Atlantis and became an exile. He was captured by Lemurian slavers and forced to row their galleys for two years. After a daring escape, he became a feared outlaw in Valusia before eventually being caught by Valusian troops. Again his freedom was stripped from him and he was forced to fight as gladiator. It quickly became apparent that his skills on the battlefield were wasted on mere games and he was drafted into the Valusian army where he rose to the rank of commander. With the peerless Red Slayers and Black Legion at his back he seized the throne from the tyrant King Borna where he has lead Valusia, Land of Enchantment back to its former glory! He lives now as Kull, King of Valusia!
