When writer/artist Mi-Kyung Yun’s complicated, highly-detailed Bride of the Water God series debuted in Fall 2007—along with a handful of other Korean titles that launched our Dark Horse Manhwa line—we had no way of knowing that Miss Yun’s romantic tour de force would attract the fans and avid readers that it has. Out of an initial line of books that included exciting sci-fi thrillers, dark fantasy epics, action-based sword-fighting sagas, and teen-romance comedy titles, it’s been this thoughtful, quirky, fantasy romance series that’s found the most success. Volume 17 in the long-running Bride of the Water God series will be released this week!
Jealous schemers in both the realm of the gods and on earth are working against our two star-crossed lovers, and former water god Habaek (it’s a long story) and his human lover Soah will not only have to struggle to stay together—but to stay alive as well! Mi-Kyung Yun’s high-stakes celestial drama reaches a turning point, as the desperate lovers must overcome seemingly impossible obstacles to save those they care about the most. Although they’ve fled to earth (to spend more time together and to get away from spiteful gods and goddesses), our star-crossed pair also can’t avoid becoming entangled in a civil war among the gods, with the current, demented emperor wanting Habaek back in the realm of the gods, fighting on his side. And Habaek yearns for a showdown with the vengeful goddess who gave him an exceptionally cruel curse! With the series rumored to be ending with volume 23 or 24, now’s the time to see if all of Miss Yun’s complicated plot threads are finally coming together—and if Habaek and Soah have a shot at spending eternity together.
