Lobster Johnson: Get the Lobster #1 Review
By Eduardo Gueiros
Mike Mignola, the creator of Lobster Johnson, brings us a new five-part mini-series that focuses on the vigilante’s exploits in New York City as he tries to enforce justice at any cost.
In this first issue a wrestling event at Madison Square Garden goes horribly awry, leaving the city in shock as the culprits forcefully escape. The unlikely duo wreaks havoc in the streets and seems unstoppable in its quest for chaos. After the police are unsuccessful in their attempts to capture—or even slow—the criminals, Lobster Johnson is forced to intervene.
The story, written by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi, is well crafted and entertaining. The plot effectively uses mystery to maintain interest in the story, seeing as we frequently see characters talk to one another about plans and situations they are familiar with, but that we know nothing about. Consequently, although we know who plays a part in what, we are left wondering just how their participation will come to influence the underlying plot.
