From the World of Minor Threats: Welcome to Twilight kicks off this March and features both familiar and new characters as seen through the eyes of legendary creators Matt Fraction, Michael Allred, Brian Michael Bendis, Soo Lee, Gail Simone, Gene Ha, Gerry Duggan, and Mark Torres! We asked these individuals to tell us more about their stories and what it was like to add to the Minor Threats universe:
"The world of Twilight City -- the world of MINOR THREATS that Jordan and Patton and Scott have made -- felt like a great place to spend a little time because it let me tell a story that wouldn't have fit in anywhere else. What's it like to look like a superhero in a world full of 'em, but not be able to actually do anything about it? What would it take for a guy that only looks like a superhero to finally man up and actually act like one? What's it like to be a man with the face of a man on your face? The story that came out is funny and weird and violent and sexy and weird -- I want to make sure I say weird twice -- and it could only happen in Twilight City. And it looks amazing, because of Mike and Laura, and I wouldn't miss out on working with them again for all the world because they're the best."—Matt Fraction (Sex Crimninals, Hawkeye)
"Dozens of factors attracted me to the project, each of which would have inspired an instant 'yes' when invited to play in the Minor Threats Sandbox. But tops being the opportunity to work with pals Matt Fraction and our editor Daniel Chabon again. And, of course, I’ve been a rabid fan of Patton Oswalt from day one."—Michael Allred (Madman, Bowie: Stardust, Rayguns, and Moonage Daydreams)
“It's not very often you get to truly put your own stamp in a universe like this. Creating a brand-new character and having her cause havoc in this sandbox is just a lot of fun. This is what makes comics so fun to make.”—Soo Lee (Carmilla: The First Vampire, The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos)
“I knew I wanted to build something strong around Frankie's formative years. Soo came at us with incredible designs and ideas for a new character that brought all the pieces together very quickly. It was an absolute delight. It felt like I was applying a lot of lessons I've learned over the years contributing to other people's universes. Easily the highlight of all of this was getting to make a story with Soo Lee. I have been a fan of hers for years. Everything she handed in was so inspired.”—Brian Michael Bendis (Masterpiece, Jinxworld)
"It's funny, I've written some of the most iconic characters of all time; James Bond, Superman, the X-Men, Tarzan, on and on. But I was genuinely intimidated to write in the Minor Threats world because the books are so damn GOOD. I signed on immediately, but it took a while to find a story I thought was good enough both for Minor Threats, but also for one of the finest artists comics has ever had, the incredible Gene Ha. The pages are just impossibly beautiful and thoughtful.”—Gail Simone (Uncanny X-Men, Women of Marvel)
"Minor Threats is the story comic books needed. And it’s a story that the world needs. Much like Playtime, if we want to survive in a hostile world we need to make our own spaces to live in. But I love love love the world of Minor Threats and getting to add onto it. We’re doing Crab Louie, an elemental ruler of crustaceans. Every bit of his humanoid body is made of lobsters and crabs, and I can tell you which species I used for which bit."—Gene Ha (Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons)
“My friendship with Patton started in a comic shop over a quarter century ago. Our circle of friends is always sharing our love of comics, film, and literature. When he told me about what he was cooking up for this universe, I thought it was exactly the right fit for this story that I'd been noodling on with Mark for almost as long as I've been friends with Patton. Some ideas need to gestate. This one needed a long time in the oven.”—Gerry Duggan (Timing/Luck, Falling in Love on the Path to Hell)
“We’ve been playing with CLEANER for a long time, and like my partner said, good things sometimes just take time. Patience and hard work really pay off. To be part of Patton, Jordan, and Scott’s rockin' playground, of something I personally enjoy…sincerely honored and grateful. First time working with the MT crew and everyone’s the sweetest. They keep encouraging my crazy!”—Mark Torres (Phantom on the Scan, Cold Spots)
