“They have always been here. Vampires. In secret and in darkness. Waiting.
“Now their time has come.
“In one week, Manhattan will be gone. In one month, the country. In two months—the world.”*
“After conquering the film, TV and novel world, multihyphenate Guillermo del Toro set his sights on his childhood love: comic books,” Variety reported this summer. “Although del Toro has directed several bigscreen comic and graphic novel adaptations (including Dark Horse Prods.’ Hellboy films), The Strain marks his first official creative role in the medium. ‘I supervise everything,’ he said. ‘I give my opinion on the art, the covers, the screenplays. (Lapham) is capturing the novel very well.’ ”
That’s right, Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s New York Times best-selling novel The Strain is about to take on new life as a comic book adapted by the Eisner Award–winning David Lapham and the insanely talented Mike Huddleston, and all of us here at Dark Horse want to know what you think about it! Did you love the novel? Are you excited about a particular scene you can’t wait to see Mr. Huddleston illustrate? Are you curious about what the main characters will look like? Drop us a line via e-mail (TheStrain[at]DarkHorse[dot]com) and let us know!
Even if you’re eagerly awaiting your first dose of The Strain, we’d still love to field your questions! Here’s the basics: When a Boeing 777 lands at JFK International Airport and goes dark on the runway, the Centers for Disease Control, fearing a terrorist attack, call in Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his team of expert biological-threat first responders. Only an elderly pawnbroker from Spanish Harlem suspects a darker purpose behind the event—an ancient threat intent on covering mankind in darkness.
So, whether you’re already a fan of the novels, a del Toro devotee, a Hogan’s hero, a horror aficionado, or just an admirer of Lapham’s and Huddleston’s previous brilliant work in comics, we want to hear from you! Questions, comments, or concerns—every bit of mail is welcome, so drop us a line at TheStrain[at]DarkHorse[dot]com and you just may see your letter printed in an issue of The Strain. And remember to sign your name to your e-mail and let us know it’s okay to print.
It’s gonna be a wild ride!
