WonderCon attendees were given a special preview today of the hottest television shows in comics. Sure, that statement may not make a lot of sense, unless you've been keeping up with Dark Horse's continuation of the beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Four years ago, Dark Horse announced not only the reboot of the line of Buffy comics, but also that the series would actually pick up where the show left off, with a canon story line, a healthy mix of the hottest names in comics, and former writers from the tragically canceled television show, all with the direct guidance of Joss Whedon himself. The series ran for forty issues and garnered widespread praise in comics, genre-fiction, and paranormal-romance circles.
Today, it was announced that the series would return in September with the launch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9! This time, Joss Whedon returns to cowrite with Andrew Chambliss (Dollhouse, The Vampire Diaries), along with Season 8 fan favorite Georges Jeanty handling the art. Check out the Hero Complex interview with Andrew Chambliss for hints of what's to come.
Dark Horse also announced the return of another Whedon fan favorite, Angel, with an all-new canon story line produced by Joss Whedon, written by Christos Gage (Avengers Academy, G.I. Joe: Cobra), with art by Rebekah Isaacs (DV8: Gods and Monsters, DMZ). The new series will be titled Angel & Faith, and details can be found in CBR's interview with Christos Gage.
Finally, another Joss Whedon series will return in comics in July. Following up on the success of two one-shot issues, Dark Horse will release the first Dollhouse miniseries this summer! Written by Andrew Chambliss, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen, with art by Cliff Richards, this series will feature a canon story line set in a not-so-distant future established in the recently released Dollhouse: Epitaphs comic. For more info, head over to MTV's Splash Page for an interview with series writer Andrew Chambliss.
Dark Horse brings all of the beloved Whedon characters under one roof in 2011. Watch for more news in coming months on all of your favorite Dark Horse titles, new and old.
