Hello Dark Horse fans!
We're a month away from New York Comic Con! Will we see you there? Sure hope so!
If you haven't been keeping up with your comics media, here's some key links and reviews for you to check out what we've got going on in the news!
BUFFY: Season 9
If you've been living under a rock, it's time to come out and see what everyone is saying about the new season of Buffy!
MTV Geek:
"...this is a good, fun, solid issue that leaves me hankering for the next one in a way I haven’t felt since way back at the beginning of Season 8. Will Season 9 keep up the quality, the heart, and the funny for the rest of the run? I can’t say for sure, but I can tell you this: in this issue at least, Buffy is back, and better than ever!"
Major Spoilers:
"Face it – if you are a Buffy fan, you’re probably going to pick this issue up regardless of what any review has to say. And I agree, this issue should be picked up if only to see what happens “after.” There are several moments that work on the humor level, some character growth that happens with time, and the beginnings of this season’s Big Bad."
BAMFAS:
"Finally, we are introduced to the potential big bad, albeit briefly, but enough to get excited at the prospect of where this will all go. For a season opener this is pretty great and definitely builds excitement about where season 9 is heading!"
Crave Online:
"Something is coming, stalking Buffy and out for a bit of revenge in the name of magic. As usual, nobody knows what it is, but it’s the newest big bad."
Geek Syndicate:
"The art is good and the other characters are fleshed out well with the plot ticking over nicely but it was the last page that really brought a smile to my face and was pure Joss Whedon."
Comic Buzz:
"When Buffy goes on sale later this month it will be a welcome return of the book to hardcore fans."
Buffyfest:
"All in all, not too shabby. You’ve got our interest, Dark Horse. What’s next? "
While everyone else was reading the first issue, L.A. Times' Hero Complex talked it out with writer Andrew Chambliss.
"“Buffy will be trying to sort out her life in the way that most twentysomethings do,” Chambliss said. “This struggle will play a central role in Buffy’s journey throughout the season, and I think it’s fair to say that some of the season’s biggest surprises and challenges will come from the non-supernatural problems that Buffy is going to face.”
It's on shelves now, make sure you check it out!

Dark Horse Goes To The Movies
R.I.P.D.
As you may have heard, the next Dark Horse Comics film project is R.I.P.D, starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. The movie is set to release in Spring 2013, but already production pictures are popping up! Fandom Post was first to the scene in Massachusetts where the movie was shooting locally and scored some sweet shots of Kevin Bacon and Ryan Reynolds in action!
A day later, IAmRogue.com brought us pictures of Jeff Bridges in costume!
The book was published by Dark Horse back in 2003 and you can still purchase R.I.P.D. on Amazon!
THE GOON
San Diego Comic Con 2009, the first footage of The Goon movie appears.
It shows up very quickly on YouTube and fans go wild for it. They continually ask when the movie will actually get greenlit and made. Unfortunately, I don't have that answer. Apparently, they are still looking for producers!
But I do have the latest trailer that was released on Tuesday by Eric Powell, courtesy of DigitalSpy and MAN, would someone fund this movie already!?
You absolutely should check out The Goon PSA if you have not because Eric Powell and David Fincher are incredible!
Better than Happy Feet any day of the week.
Evelyn Evelyn
The incredibly bizarre, yet endearing story of Evelyn Evelyn is set to be released next week! The amazing Amanda Palmer, of Dresden Dolls fame, has been chatting with some pretty excellent comics sites about the book!
You can check out her interview and exclusive preview pages on Comics Alliance!
If you need more from Evelyn Evelyn, check out Amanda's interview on Comic Booked!
Thanks for stopping by to kick off your week with "Dark Horse in the Headlines." We'll see you next week. Same time, same channel. \m/
