THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Buddy Cops (one-shot)

"Buddy Cops is something that comicdom needs at the moment. It's fun, eccentric, and vulgar at times, but a book that needs to be read to be believed. Fans of Marvel's indie creator-made Strange Tales would probably enjoy this read, too." - Newsarama

"Everything about this book, from its sharp yet gleefully sophomoric wit to its well-manicured yet simple art to its clever lettering of sound effects like "splashnslam" or my personal favorite, "fffwwwSPACEBOOOoomb," is sheer, unbridled fun, and it thankfully has absolutely no allusions to the contrary. It's bright, outlandish and one of the best times you'll have for three bucks ... outside of Tijuana." - Comic Bastards

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #19

"Overall Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 9 #19,was a nicely handled read that earns a recommendation." - Unleash the Fanboy

"Anticipation for next months issue is rising due to all the dramatic build-up this installment has to offer. Definitely looking forward to it." - Bloody Disgusting

Emily and the Strangers #2

"If you have a teen, young adult or even a ‘tween’ who enjoys comics, this is a really entertaining, cute story. The art is colorful and polished. Emily is charming in an eccentric way and her friends bring their own charms to the table." - Talking Comic Books

"All in all, Emily and the Strangers #2 was a good set up for next month's release but it still kind of felt like an introductory piece which was both a good thing and a bad thing. But it still earns a recommendation." - Unleash the Fanboy

Ghost #4

"If you’ve been reading Ghost from the start, this final issue will “send you out of the theatre happy”. If you haven’t been reading this series (I did try to clue you in ahead of time!), you have missed a marvelous re-tooling of a heroine that had been long relegated to the “fond memory” file, and Ms. DeConnick and Mr. Noto are to be applauded for resurrecting Elisa Cameron and her ghostly alter-ego for this new era." - Talking Comic Books

"As a long time fan of Ghost, I admit that I like this take on the character. She feels like the Ghost I knew as a teenager, but different at the same time.  Her reboot honors the original, but goes in a new direction. It is a must read for fans of the character and worth it when it’s collected in trade." - Word of the Nerd

R.I.P.D.: City of the Damned #4

"The way the issue ties back to the opening scenes of the first installment gives full contentment to the consumers in regards to the gratification readers will feel as they finish the series, but leaves a big question unanswered in the end. Whether or not its going to be elaborated on in the upcoming film, its hard to say and you'll have to wait until summer to find out." - Bloody Disgusting

"I really hope that Barlow and Parker team up on another R.I.P.D. series and if not then something else at the very least. They work very well together and both of them improve each other’s role in making the comic. Barlow’s writing gives Parker plenty to work with and Parker’s art makes Barlow’s story look great. I wasn’t actually worried about the ending of this series after both creators told me via Twitter to wait for the ending and I’ll be damned if they weren’t right." - Comic Bastards

Sledgehammer 44 #1

"“Sledgehammer 44” #1 is interesting as a Mignola take on Iron Man but it is miles better than just a war comic with a twist. This is an authentic document in comic form, the sort of thing we aren’t graced with enough anymore. This book is an adventure and a committed tale that fans of the genre are going to love. Dark Horse consistently publishes niche genre fare superb in quality and consistently worth the time and money of the growing audience it achieves. It's a joy to add "Sledgehammer 44" #1 to that list." - CBR

"This is an exciting new chapter in Mignola’s body of work. We have been given a great foundation: a mysterious protagonist and a dangerous setting. The writing team is definitely keeping their cards close to their vests. An action packed script like this one needed a strong art team. Latour and Stewart absolutely delivered by creating a war-torn France where robotic gladiators and Nazis lurk. Grab this issue and jump in on an exhilarating new series." - Newsarama

"LaTour is great, and he managed to strike a balance between the classic war setting and his own style, which made the book feel both familiar and fresh. Really extraordinary stuff." - Multiversity

Star Wars #3

"Writer Brian Wood is mining the gaps in the Star Wars mythos for storytelling gold, and with this issue, the series makes the jump to lightspeed (sorry). Wood offers up a rich combination of action, revealing character moments, conflict and even a little romance." - Newsarama

"Artist Carlos D'Anda comes into his own here, truly showing off what he's capable of with the opening double-page spread of the second Death Star. His superb use of depth and scale is enough to make you feel insignificant in this universe of ours, while the intimate moments on the following pages will remind you why life is worth living. The art may have tiny quirks here and there, but when combined with the engrossing narrative, it succeeds where many comics have failed in immersing you in the glory days of Star Wars." - IGN
