Wood crafts a 'Massive' book of environmental collapse - USA Today

Brian Wood's newest epic, The Massive, debuted this week in comic shops across the country and was met with rave reviews! Brian spoke in depth with USA Today about his post-apocalyptic title.

Of all the aspects involved with surviving an apocalypse, a lack of drinking water freaks Brian Wood out the most.

"That's one thing I have a hard time thinking about," says the comic-book scribe. "It's something you take for granted on every level."

Tom Morello gives io9 the scoop on Orchid

Tom Morello has famously lent his axe-slinging skills to such acts as Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, and his one-man band The Nightwatchman.

But for his Dark Horse Comics series Orchid, Morello has traded pyrotechnics on a Fender Bassman for a simple pen. The guitarist told io9 his plans for this post-apocalyptic rebellion tale, which sees a prostitute-warrior named Orchid rising up against the mutants and dictatorial rule of the warlord Tomo Wolfe.

Dark Horse Comics' Scott Allie On The State Of The Buffyverse - MTV Geek

With Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel & Faith in full swing at Dark Horse Comics, and Spike and Willow mini-series waiting in the wings, MTV Geek thought this would be a great time to talk with Buffyverse Editor (and writer) Scott Allie about everything Whedony.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #10

"This is where Chambliss and Allie aim to restore balance to the world -- Kennedy is on her way back in, Spike is on his way out, and Buffy -- with her mind back in her buddy -- has a clear future as she bails on her crummy barista job.

Where Season 8 failed to find itself, Season 9 consistently unfolds and feels like a true successor to the television series…Buffy the Vampire Slayer is still on a terrific upswing." - IGN

"Spike’s exit in Issue #10 is poignant and emotional, with Cliff Richards’ pencils and Andy Owens’ inks really boosting the impact of the writing. Michelle Madsen colors the scene perfectly, basking the characters in the beautifully depressing purple/orange hue of San Fran’s freshly set sun. While I’m disappointed personally that Spike is making the decision to move on, it’s fantastic to see them still working at this level and in the sequential art form!"  - Fanboy Comics

Conan the Barbarian #5

"This is one of the stronger issues of this series so far, and it seems as though Wood is beginning to hit his stride here. He has created a version of Conan that is different from what we have seen in the past, but still retains what made him endure for decades. Fans of sword-and-sandal epics won’t be disappointed." - Complex

"Conan the Barbarian" #5 is proof Brian Wood knows what he’s doing with this title and he'll continue with every little storyline he drops into this growing massive ocean. It's also proof that the other artists who will fill in around Cloonan will all be chosen because they can compete at this level. You don’t need to shy away. Mostly, however, this issue is a violent load of fun matched with a narrative that isn’t forgotten or shelved to fit in an obligatory fight." - Comic Book Resources

The Massive #1

"5-star review.  "The Massive" is everything readers have come to expect from Wood: provocative, original, and fiercely intelligent in both conception and execution. Don't you dare miss it." - Comic Book Resources

"The Massive hits the mark in terms of the hype built up for the title, delivering a great read. Even those who aren’t interested in ecological collapse or environmentalism can enjoy the book because of the stellar writing of Wood, coupled with the the beautiful and fitting art of Donaldson and Stewart." EGM Now

"The Massive is thrilling science fiction, offering a nuanced and scarily portentous depiction of the future. It also delivers an important conservationist message that’s never cloying and only emerges to provide a gripping, thought-provoking setting. It’s been a great year for exuberant, cerebral science fiction. Get ready for The Massive to blow the lesser stuff right out of the water." - iFanboy

Star Wars: Knight Errant—Escape #1

"Coming into this with no knowledge of the first two arcs, I thought I may have a problem understanding some of it, but no - the characters and motivations are given just enough details that I was never wanting for more. As a starting point for Knight Errant and Kerra Holt, Escape does a good job and earns 4 out of 5 stars." - Major Spoilers

"No time is wasted on Star Wars: Knight Errant – Escape #1, and I believe we’re in for a fun ride filled with heroic deeds, hurtful betrayals, and unexpected reunions in the upcoming issues." - EU Cantina

The Strain #5

"This issue provides a fascinating sidetrek to the main story here. It helps to set down a history of the vampire menace, showing how the concealed themselves over the decades. It also shows that there are those who have fought them and won, which hints at hope for possible victory now. And the sidetrek story is well told, and the art fits beautifully." - Fellowship of the Geeks

"Mike Huddlestone’s art is very elaborate here in the rough yet piercing fashion that illustrates nicely, a great horror story. There’s an enhanced eerie tale here done in recaps for a very pivotal origins to the story. The vampires are invading and David Lapham uses a subtle and secretive form of infiltration to keep his story pounding nicely." - Comic Book Nerds Are Hot
