To Hell and Back with Mike Mignola | Nerdist

There aren’t many people that I’d follow into hell, but Mike Mignola is definitely one of them. The Hellboy creator has resumed writing and artistic duties on Dark Horse’s new ongoing Hellboy in Hell series and he oversaw the newest B.P.R.D. miniseries, B.P.R.D.: Vampire, written and illustrated by Brazilian wondertwins Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá, which hits stands in March.

Mike Mignola's ornery half-horned hero has a homecoming of sorts in Dark Horse Comics' Hellboy in Hell as the third issue hits stores and the Dark Horse app Wednesday. The series also marks Mignola's return to drawing and writing the ongoing adventures of the cult occult character for the first time in seven years.

Swierczynski Revives X, Dark Horse's One-Eyed Vigilante | Newsarama

Dark Horse turned to Swierczynski for a new version of X, the company's violent vigilante who carried his own series in the mid-'90s. Like the Ghost relaunch before it (also originally part of Dark Horse's "Comics' Greatest World" imprint), the new X series is starting inDark Horse Presents with a currently unfolding three-part story. That's getting collected on its own in April under the title X #0, with a miniseries — from the same creative team, Swierczynski and artist Eric Nguyen — debuting with a #1 issue scheduled for release on May 8.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow—Wonderland #4

"…the set up for Part 5's conclusion couldnt be any more exciting and detrimental to the future of the BuffyVerse, so it's an issue that can't be missed." - Bloody Disgusting

Colder #4

"Juan Ferreyra is a god amongst men who draws our darkest fears and uses his sorcery to haunt the dreams of the sane. It's crazy (get it) how good Colder looks. This issue starts a little slow, with Declan in a grocery store, but once you get to the realm of madness you'll drool and moan with admiration. The creatures, the buildings, Nimble Jack; all of it. It's truly horrifying. Ferreyra's art makes Colder a book you simply have to buy. You'd be crazy not to, because once Colder grabs you, it does not let go." - IGN

"For fans of horror in any style, Colder is a crazy ride, and deserves your full attention." - Read Comic Books

Hellboy in Hell #3

"And then that ending … Mignola once again reminds us that the only thing we can expect from Hellboy in Hell is the unexpected. I really didn't see the ending coming, and now that I have read it, I still don't know exactly what I saw. I have stared at that last page and I still have no real idea what I am seeing. But it's cool." - Comics Bulletin

"How Mignola is able to top the previous two issues since this series relaunched is something that completely leaves me in awe. Everything about it from the art, to the dialogue to the abstractness of the story, to the hints at underlying themes and the surprise ending makes this one of my most anticipated reads each month, and this month's issue is no different. The story is beautiful and is a bit on the existential side in the sense that it really makes readers question who Hellboy is and what his purpose is. It's incredibly well crafted, and the ending will absolutely shock you." - Comic Vine

Star Wars: Dark Times—Fire Carrier #1

"There really isn't much else to say, except that this may be the “Star Wars” comic that I'm most looking forward to continuing. It may not have the action others in the genre have (as of yet, at least), but it does a great job on story, character, and showing the Jedi philosophy. If you enjoy those aspects of “Star Wars” as I do, this is one you don't want to miss!" - Geek Grotto

"The personalities that writer Randy Stradley gives to his agents of the Empire and members of the local militia are refreshing and rife with allegorical possibility." - IGN
