Mike Mignola Goes Inside "Hellboy in Hell" l CBR

For Mike Mignola, the wait is over, but the work is just beginning. Months after announcing the return of his signature character in the new "Hellboy In Hell" cycle of stories and years since he last drew the big red guy in sequential pages, the cartoonist saw his first issue of the new era ship from Dark Horse Comics this week.

Star Wars: Legacy Returns in 2013 l CBR

Next year, fans of the "Star Wars" franchise will still be reading comic stories set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, but the latest round of stories from Dark Horse will be set a little less of a long time ago.

The publisher today revealed exclusively to CBR News that "Star Wars: Legacy" will return in the new year. Set over 100 years after the events of the original "Star Wars" trilogy, the newest iteration of the book will be written by Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman, best known for their well-received run on BOOM! Studios' "Planet of the Apes" comics.

ON SALE THIS WEEK IN REVIEWS

Willow—Wonderland #2

"This issue was great because it showed off the dynamic qualities of one of Buffyverse's best characters. It's reinforced that Willow is smart, powerful, and  very sexy. Everything was coming together a little too easy so the ending was a nice reveal, and the threats were more existential. The interior artwork is excellent and the covers were superb." - Technorati

"Jeff Parker’s knack for writing increasingly engaging scripts is fantastically supported by Brian Ching’s ability to give life to them through Michelle Madsen’s alluring explosion of colours on the pages of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow – Wonderland #2. This second installment has a lot to offer in terms of plot development and sees the exciting return of an iconic past lover to the BufyVerse." - Bloody Disgusting

Colder #2

"Colder #2 is a haunting trip into madness and fire. You should be reading this book.  Yes, you!" - IGN

"Colder #2 is even creepier than the first and gives the reader their first look into the horrifying world behind the eyes of the insane. The entire story is compelling to read and is matched with wonderful art from the talented Juan Ferreyra. There is no reason why any fan of psycho horror would not enjoy this issue." - Read Comic Books

Hellboy in Hell #1

"More impressive than Mignola’s script is his artwork. Bringing his trademark heavily-shaded style that blends German expressionism with pop art, Mignola absolutely nails every page here. His figures are appropriately grotesque and Gothic, while his backgrounds look like the lovechild of Jack Kirby and Fritz Lang. Unlike the homogenized pin-up art that saturates many high-profile comic books, this is a mainstream title with a truly unique vision that you won’t find anywhere else." - Complex

"Hellboy in Hell is great. It's mean and packed and funny in all the right ways... but after I finished it, I couldn't help but find myself wondering how Mignola is going to rip my guts out this time. Dig into it a little and see how it makes you feel." - Comics Alliance

"Hellboy in Hell #1 is indescribably good. No amount of hyperbole can do the book justice. Mike Mignola is back, and better than ever." - Newsarama

"Hellboy in Hell is nothing I expected, and everything I wanted it to be. Mike Mignola has once again proven that he is a master of his genre, even though his particular genre is Mike Mignola. Like H.P. Lovecraft, like Robert E. Howard, like William Hope Hodgson, Mike Mignola has a unique voice and vision that many will attempt to imitate and all will fail." - Comics Bulletin

"Hellboy in Hell" #1 is a gorgeous book, and nitpicking aside, it's a lot of fun too. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely. Fegredo's art on the various "Hellboy" mini-series from the past several years has been a joy to read, and he brought a lot to the property in general. But there's no denying this simple fact: it's great to have Mignola back at the drawing table again." - Comic Book Resources

"It’s Hellboy in Hell, how f*cking cool is that?" - Comics Bastards

House of Fun (one-shot)

"I hope Dorkin is planning more House of Fun. It's been a blast having him back in Dark Horse Presents, and having them all collected together. The funny books could use more funny, and Evan Dorkin is the man who brings it." - Comics Bulletin

"This is a fun one shot full of humor, over the top violence and even some social commentary… okay a lot of commentary, but it’s funny. If you’re looking for some laughs this week then you should definitely pick the book up. If you’ve never experienced Dorkin’s work or his classic characters like Milk & Cheese then do yourself a favor and grab a copy." - Comic Bastards

Star Wars: Purge—The Tyrant’s Fist #1

"All in all, this comic is better than your average Star Wars book. First off, it’s got characters that you CARE about. Not some Jedi from a video game that took place 5,000 years before the movies. Second, it seems that there was a lot of effort put into this book to make sure it was extra good. Guess what? Mission accomplished." - Geeks of Doom

"Star Wars: Purge - The Tyrant’s Fist" #1 is a great character study for Vader by presenting a challenging and complex problem for him to solve. The use of Major Namada as the narrator brings an external view to proceedings while also helping build toward the final sequence that sets up the next issue’s conclusion to this tale. The Star Wars universe is so rich and wide. Stories like this make fans appreciate all that can be covered in the "Star Wars" universe with so many great characters." - Comic Book Resources
