THE WEEKS IN REVIEW
APRIL 24, 2013
"This one might get overlooked because of its steampunk-related sitting, but Amala's Blade should be in the pull list for adventure comic fans." - Newsarama
"Amala's Blade #1 is the beginning of a beautiful adventure with a strong and colourful young female assassin guiding readers through it. This comic isn't like other comics, and although that may not sit well with many comic readers who rarely step outside of their superhero comic boundaries, it's always good to try something new. Read this comic, be drawn in by the great characterization and compelling story and study the art. If after doing those things you still don't agree with me, then maybe you're just not ready for a unique comic reading experience." - Read Comic Books
"As already mentioned, this book is consistently fantastic. Rebekah Isaacs nails the quiet, contemplative moments just as easily as she does the chaotic, action-packed scenes. Dan Jackson’s colors are excellent as always – vibrant and fun without looking campy or ridiculous. Christos Gage creates an excellent air of tension as Angel shows a more ruthless, Angelus-esqu side than normal and Faith prepares to put Zombie-Giles out of his misery should that become necessary." - Nerdspan
"The title of this story is partly wrong. This IS what you want, and what you need. It’s a blast! A+" - SciFi Pulse
"The Answer is an absolute thrill-ride. The series had you thinking you knew what was going to happen, then it did a complete 180. Hopeless and Norton have pulled off four great issues with this series, and it will be very interesting to see where it goes next. 4.5/5" - Comic Book Therapy
"The Answer! #4 may not deliver a perfect ending to its crazy shenanigans, but it was a thoroughly entertaining romp from start to finish. If you're already a fan of this franchise than purchasing this book is a no-brainer, but if you're not invested I highly suggest that you start with #1 and work your way through it. Trust me it's worth it." - Unleash the Fanboy
"So far these comics have been a nice meaty stew of dialogue, faux history and folklore, spiced up with excellent coloring and illustrations. I’m intrigued, I’m excited, and I’m looking forward to more from Mr. Mignola and his gang." - Comic Bastards
"It was a more straightforward read, but it was still excellent with just top notch art. It's really hard to not love a book with Ba and Moon's art." - Multiversity
"As always,Dark Horse Presents is a great showcase for a wide variety of work." - Unleash the Fanboy
"I can’t be alone when I say that I find the sheer amount of talent that Dark Horse continues to find and poor into this anthology is staggering. For eight bucks you’re getting a ton to read so don’t let the price scare, it’s worth it." - Comic Bastards
"This series, this whole story, is a testament to Dragon Age's unique approach at storytelling and David Gaider's grasp of that and the characters involved." - Read Comic Books
"Dragon Age: Until We Sleep #2 is a step-up from last month's beginning issue and has me all kinds of excited for the final piece of this puzzle. Recommended." - Unleash the Fanboy
"Issue #11 of The Massive once again focuses on the macro-scale of the world post-crash, and I loved every minute of it. This series only gets better with each issue and #11 is a great example of how good it can be when Wood is in sync with his art team and they are firing on all cylinders." - Comicosity
"The Massive is a moveable feast of agonies, a Gethsemane on the waves. Leave it to a writer with Wood's inimitable talents to make a reader even consider life worth saving. How Christ-like. Populations are being snuffed out. Cal is dying. And the sharks are circling." - Comics Bulletin
"Kindt's aesthetic is consistent as ever, even if my heart does continue to cry out for a touch more sophistication in the art. The lack of polish is a stylistic choice but one can't help but imagine what the world of Mind MGMT would be if the visuals matched the moody atmospheric tone of the writing." - IGN
"No one is paying me to say this, but I'm such a fan of creators making money that I have to plug for a book if I like it. So buy this issue. I'm putting the Official Comics Bulletin Stamp of Approval on this issue, so if you don't like it, we'll refund your purchase." - Comics Bulletin
"If nothing else, Star Wars: Legacy is freaking beautiful. Hardman's artwork is drool worthy. Star Wars always looks best when it has that "lived in" feeling and Hardman delivers that in spades. The action scenes soar as well. You can just see the ships flying across the page; there's movement and intensity. Mix in some stunning color work by Rachelle Rosenberg and you have everything one could possibly want in a Star Wars book. Amazing work, folks." - IGN
"I love the way the Legacy universe was constructed back with the original Legacy release, so I will be continuing to read and see where Ania can take us." - Nerd on the Rocks
MAY 1, 2013
"This is a more human issue. We don’t get those dramatic ukiyo-e-inspired landscapes that Sakai has be presenting us with in other issues. That means colorist Lovern Kindzierski doesn’t get a chance to shine as much. But there was a lot of story to pack into this one issue, and everyone managed to pull it off spectacularly." - Comics Bulletin
"47 Ronin has been a beautiful retelling of a legendary story. Richardson and Sakai have pulled off something truly special with this series. It remains faithful to the original while doing something different with the presentation. You can see why it ships every other month, but it does lose a little heat with space. This is one that will read amazingly well as a trade." - Comic Book Therapy
Abe Sapien #2: Dark and Terrible
"Its just great having Abe back. This arc is only the beginning as this ongoing series while undoubtedly continue alongside BPRD and Hellboy in Hell." - Bloody Disgusting
"Overall the story is entertaining and is definitely worth a look if you enjoy Abe's character and are a bit curious about his identity." - Comic Vine
Michael Avon Oeming’s The Victories #1
"Fans of superhero comics will find this series aims to provide a more thought-provoking, adult-oriented narrative rather than some of the more commonly applied cheap thrills and melodrama within the genre. 9 out of 10." - Newsarama
"All this screams a mature-series cable TV approach if and when this soon-to-be-hit series starts getting interest from Hollywood. You read it here first, folks. The Victories #1 shows us how no one is perfect, even our revered heroes." - Bloody Disgusting
"But didn't I say you'd be glad you picked up this book? I did. And here's why: it looks like art deco and The Jetsons. It uses negative space and dulled hues. It reads like noir and dystopian literature. It has cars from the '40s that fly and cigars that billow thick smoke. It sounds like thick city accents and big hand drawn onomonopia. It's Blade Runner and it's Felix the Cat clocks and it's unlike anything else on the shelf right now -- and if you happen to spot something that is, it's probably because Motter's work influenced it." - IGN
"With a noir-ish, grimy feel, Mister X: Eviction is the archetypical pulp fiction, minus the ragged, untrimmed edges, which would be a disservice to such a beautiful comic book. The issue features a second story (note: not back-up, it accounts for half the page number!) equally crafted." - Geeks Unleashed
Star Wars: Dark Times—Fire Carrier #4
"The visual storytelling perfectly compliments the written story. I’d have to say this is my favorite issue yet, artwise, in Fire Carrier." - Roqoo Depot
"With plenty of action and the introduction of a new side, though not a lot of plot advancement, we get a needed light break from the heavy revelations before the final showdown." - Big Shiny Robot
