With New York Comic Con in the rearview mirror, Dark Horse in the Headlines returns to its regularly scheduled flurry of aggregation. I'm your host, Publicity Coordinator JIm Gibbons, and the following are the cream of crop in terms of Dark Horse-related news items from the past week. We've got previews, reviews and even interviews, so—as Pink once said—let's get this party started!

Conan: Road of Kings
Though legendary comics scribe and Conan expert Roy Thomas doesn't make his return to the Cimmerian until December, ICV2 showed the first preview of Thomas' new tale with some gorgeous black and white pages from artist Mike Hawthorne. ICV2 also interviewed Thomas on his history with Conan and all about the new series Road of Kings. 100% Adventure is on the way!

Serenity: The Shepherd's Tale
The long-awaited and extremely mysterious origin story of Shepherd Book is only a week and a half away from being in stores. If that isn't enough to get sci-fi fans and legions of Browncoats outrageously excited, how about a teaser image from the graphic novel that Tor posted last week? Ok, ok… as the name "teaser image" suggests, that quick glance is little more than a almost-upsetting bit of tantalization. Well, how about checking out a full preview of The Shepherd's Tale on Wired's Underwire blog? Hopefully those glimpses can keep you guys sated till the book's release next week.

Buffy
With Season 8 nearing its explosive conclusion, it's no wonder there are plenty of items about the "season finale" popping up online. First, Scott Allie sat down with ComicBookResources.com for a lengthy commentary on issue #37. CBR also ran a preview of the upcoming issue #38, so check that out—but beware, mateys, there be spoilers ahead! The Allie cat also did a great interview with Newsarama about Season 8's rapidly closing conclusion, which is another good article worth reading! (Knockturn Allie chatted with Newsarama about the upcoming original content on DH:HD, so give that a peek too!)

Scary Godmother
Jill Thompson's Scary Godmother came out last week and received a glowing review and recommendation from ComicsWorthReading.com! Here are a few of the amazing compliments it featured…
"This beautiful hardcover is perfectly timed. As fall creeps over the country, there's nothing better than relaxing with some lightly scary (but also funny), impressively illustrated stories about monsters. The strong sense of family, whether natural or assembled from close friends, is a comforting underlay, as is Jill Thompson's tangible portrayal of the season."

"There's a message of tolerance in there that more could learn from. But whether or not you take in the lessons, anyone can marvel at the gorgeous art, wonderfully painted and so imaginative."

"The book is sturdy and substantial, well-suited to reading over and over. My favorite touch is that, as with the original releases, the front endpaper has a bookplate designed into it, reading 'This Book Belongs to' with space for a name. It's a lovely detail that encourages young readers to feel a sense of ownership over their book. Reading and re-reading Scary Godmother should become part of Halloween holiday traditions for every family."

Baltimore
For those who prefer more bloodthirsty fiends with their Halloween reading, a slew of Baltimore-related links arrived last week to inform folks about Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden and Ben Stenbeck's vampire tale. Newsarama interviewed Mr. Golden about the second Baltimore series The Curse Bells. Comics Bulletin gave issue #3 of The Plague Ships a great review, saying…
"It's refreshing to see vampires and other ghouls meet their demise in the golden rays of the sun. No sparkling here. These bastards flame on... The perfect Halloween book."

…and Fangoria delivered a preview of Plagues Ships' fourth issue, as well!

Oh, and speaking of Halloween and comic book previews, iFanboy ran a preview of the upcoming new issue of Creepy! Check that out here!

Steve Rude
Many of you may have seen that Nexus artist Steve Rude has hit some tough times and is in need of some cash to save his house. Rude is offering many amazing deals on original art at his ebay page, so go help out a stellar artist by buying some amazingly-priced original art! The talented gentlemen over at Comic Twart have helped the cause by sketching pictures of Nexus all week to remind people about Rude's fund-raiser. Go give that professional fan art a look and then go buy something from The Dude!

In other news…
  • Dark Horse Comics won the Oregon Governor's Gold Award.
  • Newsarama interviewed editor Patrick Thorpe about Dark Horse's upcoming comic tie-in to Danny McBride's "Your Highness."
  • Crave Online interviewed Mac Walters about the upcoming Mass Effect: Evolution.
  • Mania gave the new De: Tales hardcover a rave review.
  • Comics Bulletin said equally nice things about B.P.R.D.: Hell On Earth—New World #3.
  • Crave Online had plenty of compliments for Turok, Son of Stone #1.
  • And, I know I said NYCC was behind us, but both Comics Alliance and About.com ran great recaps about all of our NYCC news. If you need a refresher, give those a look!

Thanks for stopping by to check out all of Dark Horse's headlines from last week. As Porky Pig frequently says, "That's all, folks!"
