BLACKSAD WINS A HARVEY AWARD FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW

Winner of Best International Book: Blacksad: They All Fall Down - Part Two by Juan Díaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido; translated by Diana Schutz and Brandon Kander.

About Blacksad: They All Fall Down - Part Two:
Weekly's been framed by Lewis Solomon, the power behind New York's construction boom, but the king of the hill has built his empire on a mound of corpses, including union attorney Kenneth Clarke and theater director Iris Allen, and Blacksad must take out their killer before he can take down Solomon. But with Weekly in stir and cops on his heels, the feline detective is minus an ally—and the sudden reappearance of his lost love Alma promises a dangerous distraction as he seeks to uncover the truth.

Blacksad
translator and longtime Dark Horse editor Diana Schutz provided the following words for the ceremony and acceptance of the award, since the creators themselves could not attend:

"This is the third (!) year in a row that Blacksad has won a Harvey Award, and we're delighted that John Blacksad has found his way into the hearts of American readers. The book is now translated into 28 (!) different languages, thanks to the incredible talent of writer Juan Díaz Canales and artist Juanjo Guarnido.

My partner-in-crime Brandon Kander and I are so lucky to be able to bring you their work in English. Translators of fiction rewrite the book entirely in a language you can understand, and the young kids trying to make a living at this are an integral part of the creative team.

We're grateful to the Harvey Committee for acknowledging our work. In fact, we're honored to be in such amazing company here: every single book nominated for this award represents some of the best from the world at large. Reading graphic novels from other cultures helps to widen our own, and we’re grateful for your support. Thank you!"
