Collecting “From the World of Minor Threats: The Alternates” and “Barfly” together in a deluxe hardcover format for the first time
Dark Horse Books presents the From the World of Minor Threats Library Edition Volume 1, a new oversized hardcover collection compiling the first two series tied into Patton Oswalt (DC Horror Presents, Black Hammer Visions), Jordan Blum (DC Horror Presents, Edge of Spider-Verse), and Scott Hepburn’s (M.O.D.O.K.: Head Games) genre-bending crime drama, Minor Threats. From the World of Minor Threats Library Edition Volume 1 will also feature new cover art from Hepburn, a sketchbook section, and pinups from some of comics’ leading artists.
The first tie-in series, From the World of Minor Threats: The Alternates, is written by Tim Seeley (Masters of the Universe: The Sword of Flaws), Oswalt, and Blum, with illustrations by Christopher Mitten (Hellboy) and Tess Fowler (Kid Lobotomy), colors by Ian Herring (Welcome to the Maynard), and lettering by Nate Piekos (The Umbrella Academy). It follows Mary the Multi-Monster, The Tripper, Crab Louie, Kid Curious, and Persona, offbeat b-list superheroes formerly known as The Alternates, who seemingly sacrificed themselves to stop an invasion from another dimension. Instead, they were transported to a mirror reality where they lived complex lives in a more four-dimensional existence, expanding both their powers and consciousness. Five years later, they've returned to Twilight City, struggling to reacclimate to their old lives in a traditional two-dimensional superhero world--in withdrawal from the vivid ones they left behind. When elements from this alternate reality turn up as a dangerous new street drug, some of the heroes band together to destroy it, while others succumb to its temptation.
The second series, From the World of Minor Threats: Barfly, is written by Kyle Starks, Oswalt, and Blum, with illustrations by Ryan Browne (Eight Billion Genies, Lucky Devils), and lettering by Piekos. It’s a heartwarming, feel-good, coming-of-age story about an insect monster-man searching for his identity amongst the criminal underworld of Twilight City. A grimy punk rock odyssey that answers the question "How much $#!% can one lackey eat before he says NO MORE?!
From the World of Minor Threats Library Edition Volume 1 (hardcover, 248 pages, 8” x 12.1875”) will be available in bookstores on June 2, 2026 and in comic shops on June 3, 2026. It is now available for pre-order at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and your local comic shop or bookstore for $49.99.

Praise for From the World of Minor Threats:
“The Alternates is the rare comic spinoff that not only continues the magic of its flagship series but manages to work as something unique and accessible. Unsurprisingly, Patton Oswalt, Jordan Blum, and Tim Seeley all nail the script, hooking you into the characters and the narrative immediately. Coupled with Christopher Mitten and Tess Fowler’s ambitious and scrappy art, this issue is great, plain and simple.”—Comicbook.com
“If you enjoyed Minor Threats, The Alternates is a worthy sequel that expands the same universe. And if you haven’t enjoyed Minor Threats (which just came out in TP), it will still appeal to anyone who enjoys tales of weird heroes in a world they never made! The artwork equals the story, evoking the spirit of 1990s Vertigo in every panel.”—Kabooooom!
“Barfly #1 is a delightful addition to the world of Minor Threats. With its outstanding writing, stunning visuals, and memorable characters this comic is a true work of art. If the next three issues are anything like the premiere issue, we are in for one hell of a ride and is in serious contention for our comic book of the year!”—Capes & Tights
“Kyle Starks perfectly grasps the tragicomic edge of the Minor Threats universe, particularly when it comes to the titular barfly. Ryan Browne’s artwork is chaotically good, pulsing with energy. The real star of the book is Nate Piekos, whose lettering gives Barfly #1 a unique visual language."—AIPT Comics
“The tragedy and comedy about a henchmen fly is packed full of heart with Starks’ script being hilarious and sad, while Browne’s highly detailed and fittingly chaotic art bring the unlikely world to life."—Comic Frontier
