MAY 19
Name: Faith Erin Hicks
A sentence about what comics-related work you do and/or are known for:
I write and draw comics. I’m probably best known for Friends with Boys, The Adventures of Superhero Girl, and that one Internet comic about Wolverine going grocery shopping.
What are your favorite working tools?
My inking brush. I love inking! My favorite part of making comics.
What talent would you most like to have?
Oh man…I wish I was a faster artist, so maybe the ability to draw at superspeed? Outside of comics, I wish I could knit. I mean, I could learn, but who has time when you have comics to draw?
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Is it really lame if I say, “learning to draw comics by myself”? That was really hard. I drew over 1,000 pages of online comics before I was published. My parents have boxes of my old comic pages in their garage. I hope they don’t move anytime soon. I’d hate to clear all that out.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Hmm, I like where I live (Halifax, Nova Scotia), but it’s very far from everything. I’d like to stay where I am, but it would be nice if someone invented a teleporter so I could easily visit friends who are far away from me.
What is it that you most dislike?
Mean people. Also, colds. I’m very whiny when I have a cold.
Who are your heroes (fiction or non)?
In real life, definitely my artistic heroes, people like Jeff Smith, Naoki Urasawa, Hiromu Arakawa. Fictional heroes, probably Captain Picard. I’d join Starfleet and travel across the galaxy for him.
