MAY 15
Name: Emma T Capps
A sentence about what comics-related work you do and/or are known for: Creator of the web comic The Chapel Chronicles, regular comics teacher at 826 Valencia, and the first-ever teenage contributor to Dark Horse Presents.
What are your favorite working tools?
A crow quill pen, Speedball ink, vellum, and Photoshop.
What talent would you most like to have?
To work at an extremely fast rate. There’s never enough hours in the day!
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Inspiring girls to create comics. Whenever I hear that my work has prompted another teenage girl to start her own strip, my heart swells! As a comics teacher, I’ve raised the number of female cartooning students in my classes from less than 20 percent to more than 60 percent.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
On a sleeper train touring Europe.
What is it that you most dislike?
A lack of empathy.
Who are your heroes (fiction or non)?
Sheilah Beckett, a classic midcentury illustrator who recently passed away at age 100. She switched over to a Wacom tablet and Photoshop in her older years and was drawing until her last day. She inspires me to always keep working and keep my sense of humor!
