NAME: Becky Cloonan
A SENTENCE ABOUT WHAT COMICS-RELATED WORK YOU DO AND/OR ARE KNOWN FOR:
Most recently I was the artist on The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, written by Gerard Way and Shaun Simon, and I just self-published a collection of short stories that I wrote and drew called By Chance or Providence!
What are your favorite working tools?
I prefer working with pencil and paper, but I just got a Cintiq so I’m looking forward to learning how to use it more! I know working digitally is divisive, but it’s such a powerful tool—it’d be foolish not to learn how to use it, especially if it can improve my work.
What talent would you most like to have?
I’d love to one day go on an archaeological dig, and learn some of the finer points of trench digging.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Improvement. And continuing to strive for improvement.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Recent events in my life have had me thinking about this a lot lately, and I don’t have an answer. It’d be great just to take my drawing board on the road, and never spend more than a year in any given place. Who knows? Maybe I will just move to the Breakfast Zone.
What is it that you most dislike?
For the sake of continuity I will go with, “Finding your inspiration right before you go to bed.” Then you are left with the choice of do I stay up all night and draw? Or do I get some sleep like a normal person?
Who are your heroes (fiction or non)?
David Attenborough. Jane Austen. Miss Marple.
