For some, Friday the 13th conjures images of black cats, broken mirrors, open ladders, and other superstitions, while others think of hockey masks, cabins in the woods, and final girls. As horror fans, the Dark Horse team loves to celebrate the day with the latter, so we're sharing some of our favorite slashers and final girls!

Where Monsters LieConnor Hayes and the slew of slashers in Where Monsters Lie
Have you always wondered what slasher monsters--the masked home invasion family, the mindless, unkillable monster, the serial killer trapped in a doll--do for those years in between their murder sprees? They're at Wilmhurst--a gated community in the middle of nowhere where they relax--or try to--until they get the call to go out and kill again.

Connor Hayes survived his first slasher in summer camp. A handful of years later, he barely escaped a psychopath who built torture puzzles for his victims. Since then, he's been training and planning for running into these creatures again. He's a respected special agent. And now he knows where the monsters lie, and he's planning for war.

'Patra and Jeremy Jones from 'Patra
A young girl named 'Patra wakes up with no memory of her past. All she knows is that a big knife and a horrific mask appear whenever she's in danger. Oh, that, and a deranged killer, in the tradition of 1980s slasher films, who is slaughtering families in a small mid-western town, and wants to make 'Patra his victim too.

Sloane and the Man from Loving, Ohio
After the mysterious suicide of their friend, Sloane, Elliott, Cameron, and Ana are just trying to get through the rest of high school. They live in Loving, Ohio--a town built around The Chorus, a new-age cult with members firmly planted in positions of power and influence throughout the community. Through their grief, a series of murders throw these friends into a mystery connected to everything around them. Sloane and her friends have to escape a roaming murderer, figure out their place in the world, and deal with loss, all in the looming shadow of The Chorus. But through it they will find the true cost of friendship and the adulthood they seek.

Shyla and The Butcher of La Perdita in The Butcher's Boy
Deep within the backroads of the Pacific Northwest, an entire town fell victim to the brutal cleaver of the Butcher of La Perdita.

But that was more than a hundred years ago, and in that time, the generational nightmare of murder and meat has been reduced to morbid clickbait folklore for bored travelers to share online.

And yet some say the Butcher still haunts the streets at night, seeking fresh meat for his larder. A true Lovecraftian horror? Or just the feverish dreams of a mentally unstable serial killer. Six friends on a road trip are about to find out…

Denise Stokes and the Winter Man from Cold Bodies
Years ago, Denise Stokes was the sole survivor of the brutal Winter Man massacre, in which several young adults were slaughtered during a powerful blizzard in Wisconsin. Now, in the present day, Denise has tried to bury the past behind her, while the world around her has become obsessed with the murders through a popular film franchise called Snow Day. And as the anniversary of the killing approaches, Denise finds herself in a dark place as she begins to see the Winter Man show up again, and the difference between what's real and what isn't begins to collapse around her.
