Smart, inspired creators are infusing the comics industry with new ideas, new storytelling vision ... new life! If you look in the right places, you'll be surprised what you'll find, especially in the pages of Dark Horse Comics!

At Dark Horse, we put our instincts to the test as we search for the most promising newcomers. Past creators who got their big breaks or had their first works published here include Edvin Biukovic, Paul Chadwick, Ricardo Delgado, Gary Gianni, Dave Johnson, Teddy Kristiansen, Doug Mahnke, Phill Norwood, Kilian Plunkett, and Mark Verheiden.

In 1999, several rising stars have taken on new projects and mainstay titles alike. Here are just some of the new names in the Dark Horse "stable" of creators. Watch for their projects throughout the year and into 2000!

Dark Horse Presents continues its tradition of showcasing new talent with creators such as Carlo Barberi, penciller on the quirky Burglar Girls in DHP #144 & #145. And, DHP #145 & #146 show off plotter/penciller Mark Henry on "Dark Exorcism."

Tom Biondolillo's influences include Alex Raymond and Jack Davis. He puts his sweat into every page, and knows his comics history. Look for his art in the Aliens vs. Predator Annual this month.

We got to work with Toby Cypress fresh from art school. His influences are "coffee and Coltrane." The art of this singular talent can be see on the recent Predator: Homeworld series.

John Deadstock's work might give you nightmares. His work has been available in Europe, but he made his U.S. debut in June on ZombieWorld: Tree of Death.

Editor Dave Land met artist Lucas Marangon at last year's San Diego ComicCon. "I met with him for three minutes and I knew I wanted to work with him on something!" Dave got his wish. Look for Lucas' work on R.I.P.D. in October.

Effervescent Brit Chris McLoughlin is the penciller on Bob Burden's Original Mysterymen (September), and on The Mystery Men movie adaptation (August).

When artist Cliff Richards tried out for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, he didn't think he'd be taking over the series! Before he begins his monthly run, look for his work in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Annual in August.

Colorist Dave Stewart has been praised by the likes of Mike Mignola and color guru Mark Chiarello. Dave brings his informed palette to books such as Hellboy, Predator, Terminator, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Rich Tommaso is the creator of the new series, The Horror of Collier County, due out this October. Keep an eye on this young comics author.

Doug Wheatley got his first big break on Myst. Recently, he turned the Aliens universe on its ear with the Destroying Angels series. If you missed it (shame!), look for the trade paperback in October.

Christian Zanier has been the new regular penciller on the long-running Ghost. Now look for his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer #12, and on other new Buffy projects.

And believe it or not, that's just the tip of the iceberg!

If you're a creator attending Dragon Con (Atlanta, July 1-4), Wizard World (Chicago, July 16-18), or this year's ComicCon International (San Diego, August 12-15), be sure to look for Dark Horse editors during portfolio review.

Do you have what it takes? There's only one way to find out!
