Chewbacca has always been a critical part of the Star Wars universe, yet we’ve never gotten much of his backstory. He’s two hundred years old, so you know he must have had amazing adventures before he met Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia. When editor Randy Stradley offered me a chance to delve into Chewie’s past, I was excited. I knew it had to be a flashback, and I knew it had to show Chewbacca in a way we’ve never seen him before. This story depicts a critical point in his life’s journey—one that will help make him the furry oaf we all know and love.
