Dark Horse in the Headlines - March 7th
Just under a year after the launch of Dark Horse’s digital initiative, it was announced that the company has expanded the number of platforms on which comics fans can access their favorite Dark Horse titles! After an incredibly successful first year of Dark Horse’s proprietary iOS app and digital storefront, Dark Horse is proud to partner with Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the leading retailer of content, digital media, and educational products, to make a library of titles available on Barnes & Noble’s award-winning NOOK Tablet and NOOK Color™.
Dark Horse continues to make headlines with news that the company’s best-selling titles are going beyond the iOS platform! Now, the largest independent publisher of graphic novels is pleased to announce a partnership with the top-selling eReading company, Kobo, to offer a library of nearly 100 titles available from Kobo.com to be read on the Kobo Vox eReader! This move follows an incredibly successful year of distributing titles digitally through Dark Horse’s proprietary iOS app, and corresponding digital storefront at Digital.DarkHorse.com.
Retailers around the country are sold out of the first two issues of Dark Horse’s recently launched Star Wars series, the highly anticipated Dawn of the Jedi!
It was announced this week following an outcry from retailers and fans alike, that the company will reprint both of these landmark issues in limited quantities, to be shipped from Diamond on March 7, with an on-sale date of March 21.
Penned by Mike Russell (SabertoothVampire.com), The Sabertooth Vampire is a webcomic about a tiny vampire hampered by his giant fangs. Will he pull his teeth out of the ground long enough to actually bite someone? Probably not.
“One of the first books that got me into comics in the nineties was the original black-and-white Dark Horse Presents—back when it was serializing stuff like Sin City and The One Trick Rip-Off and Hellboy: The Wolves of Saint August,” said Russell. “So as you can imagine, getting to submit a few strips for DHP was a huge moment for me personally as well as professionally.”
From the creators of Sight Unseen and Demons of Sherwood, Dark Horse is thrilled to deliver a new level of horror: Riven! The third collaboration between cowriters Bo Hampton (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow) and Robert Tinnell (The Wicked West), Riven is 196 pages of finely tuned terror that will send shivers up your spine!
ON SALE THIS WEEK IN REVIEWS
"While Star Wars: Crimson Empire III may not be the best book for the casual Star Wars fan, to readers that have enjoyed the slow evolution of Kir Kanos and this shadowy corner of the universe; it's been a nice run so far." - Newsarama
"Where Gulacy shines most is in his action sequences: Kir Kanos gets some great scenes stopping the ambush on the remote mining world, Rebel forces get a few panels invading Devian’s base, and Devian’s fighters and cruisers ripping apart their foes." - Big Shiny Robot
"Dragon Age: The Silent Grove just might have the chops, I can see this turning into something exciting and worthy of a month's wait." - Comics Bulletin
"What I think is really great about this series is that you don’t need to know any Dragon Age mythology or back story to dive right in and really enjoy the comic. This is not an easy task but it’s done expertly here. Luckily, there is only a two-week wait until the next issue and for .99 cents it’s more than worth the price!" - Bamfas
"Like most comics, this one is short and punchy and the best stuff is at the end. The group arrives at Velabanchel and infiltrates it with some stabbing and shooting and plenty of good stuff." - Grey Wardens
